The most-sailed regions

Greece · Cyclades
The great Aegean classic: steady wind, crystal water and white villages. For crews with some experience.

Croatia · Central Dalmatia
Brač, Hvar, Vis: Dalmatia's golden triangle, short hops and exceptional shore life.

Italy · Aeolian Islands
Seven volcanoes set in the Tyrrhenian Sea, one erupting every twenty minutes. Italy's most spectacular cruise.

Greece · Ionian Islands
A predictable thermal breeze, short hops and Paxos' turquoise water: dream territory for a first charter.

Greece · Saronic Gulf
Short hops, sheltered anchorages, Hydra and Spetses: the perfect basin for beginners and families.

Greece · Dodecanese
Rhodes, Symi, volcanoes and the warmest water in Greece, with a meltemi gentler than the Cyclades.

What kind of sailor are you?
Beginner — your first cruise
The Saronic Gulf: short hops, sheltered anchorages and Athens an hour away. The perfect learning ground.
Family — sailing with children
The Ionian Islands: flat water in the lee of the islands, short hops between Lefkada and Meganisi, and a taverna at every anchorage.
Expert — long passages
The Cyclades in an established meltemi: proper upwind work, accelerating channels, and the Aegean's finest anchorages as the reward.

Frequently asked questions
How do your recommendations work?
Every route published on Breeze & Sail has been sailed by our crew, often several times across different seasons. We publish real distances, tested anchorages and the mistakes to avoid. For charters, we compare boats available on Click&Boat and earn a commission if you book through our links — at no extra cost to you.
Do I need a license to charter a yacht?
Greece, Croatia and Italy require a recognised license (ICC or equivalent), plus a VHF certificate in Croatia. Without experience, skippered charter is available everywhere.
When is the best time to book?
For July–August, book between October and January: the best boats go first and prices rise afterwards. For June and September — our favourite months everywhere — booking before March is usually enough.
Catamaran or monohull?
Monohull for the sailing (better upwind, essential in the Cyclades), catamaran for the living (stability at anchor, space, ideal for families). Our rule of thumb: catamaran in Croatia, monohull in Greece, either in Italy.
Can your routes be adapted?
They are designed for it: every route lists weather variants, legs that can be split in two, and buffer days. Treat them as a backbone, not a contract.
