Sailing the Kornati islands

Season : May to SeptemberLevel : Beginner to intermediateWind : Moderate maestral, bora possible off-summer

The Kornati are the anti-Hvar: no clubs, no ramparts, almost no inhabitants. Just a chain of 89 bare white islands, a few konobas reachable only by sea, and buoy nights of absolute calm. George Bernard Shaw called it "the last day of Creation".

The sailing is easy — protected channels, short distances — but provisioning is non-existent: you load everything in Biograd or Zadar, fill the water tanks to the brim and go self-sufficient. That is precisely what keeps the crowds away.

Frequently asked questions

How much is Kornati park entry?

€40–60 per boat per day depending on size, with about 20% off if bought online before entering. The ticket includes park buoys (not the private konoba ones).

Can you anchor inside the park?

Only in designated zones (list provided with the ticket): elsewhere, buoys are mandatory to protect the seabed. Konoba buoys are free if you dine there — the best deal in the Kornati.

Is there water and power in the Kornati?

Almost none: only Piškera marina offers (rationed) water and power. Leave with full tanks, carry bottled water for the week and make sure the service battery is healthy.
