Frequently asked questions
How much does a sailboat rental in Athens cost?
Off-season, a 40 ft monohull starts around €1,900 per week; in July–August expect €2,400–3,500. Catamarans start near €4,900. Booking 6–9 months ahead saves 15–20%.
Alimos or Lavrio to reach the Cyclades?
Lavrio saves 12 miles towards Kea and Kythnos, but the fleet is smaller and the airport further (35 km). For a first Greek charter, Alimos' fleet depth remains our recommendation.
Can you charter with a skipper in Athens?
Yes, budget €180–220 per day plus meals. The skipper sleeps in the forepeak cabin, so factor that into your berth plan. It is the best possible school before going bareboat the following year.
When should I book for summer?
For July–August, book between October and January: the best recent boats go first. For June and September, March is usually early enough.
What happens if something breaks during the cruise?
Call the operator first (emergency number given at check-in): most intervene within 24 h through their island correspondents. Document everything with photos for the deposit.
Is Saturday boarding mandatory?
It is the standard in high season. Off-season, many boats accept flexible start days and 10–11-day durations — perfect for the extended Cyclades loop.
